Community helps officers arrest reckless driver in Mokopane

Community members helped traffic officers arrest a reckless driver in Mokopane after he tried to drive into an officer.

MOKOPANE The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has commended community members in Mokopane for assisting law enforcement officers in apprehending a reckless driver on Saturday, March 14.

According to departmental spokesperson Mashudu Mabata, the incident occurred during peak traffic hours while traffic officers were conducting point-duty services at Moshate Cross along the N11 road.

A 40-year-old man driving a vehicle with Gauteng registration ignored instructions from an officer and attempted to drive into him.

The officer managed to avoid injury and pursued the vehicle. With the assistance of community members, the suspect was eventually stopped near Voortrekker Hospital on Rabe Street.

The driver was arrested and is expected to face charges including driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving, failing to stop when instructed by an officer, and resisting arrest.

The department thanked residents for their swift action and cooperation with law enforcement.

“Your involvement ensured the officer’s safety and helped bring a potentially dangerous driver to justice,” the department said.
