Four arrested in Westenburg kidnapping
Four suspects aged 30 to 55 arrested in Westenburg Polokwane after alleged kidnapping and robbery on the R101.
POLOKWANE – Four suspects aged between 30 and 55 have been arrested following a police response to an alleged kidnapping and robbery incident in Westenburg on Tuesday, March 18.
Alleged kidnapping and robbery on R101
According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 07:40 along the R101 near the intersection of Nirvana and Lawton Road.
A 42-year-old man from Malamulele was reportedly travelling towards Pretoria when his vehicle was allegedly forced to stop by two vehicles described as a white Toyota Avanza and a white Volkswagen Citi Golf.
It is alleged that several individuals approached the complainant, claiming to be taxi patrollers.
They reportedly searched him and took approximately R3 000 in cash as well as his vehicle keys.
Police further allege that the man was forced into one of the vehicles and threatened during the incident.
Police response leads to arrests and rescue
Officers responded to the scene and located the vehicles, leading to the rescue of the complainant and the arrest of four suspects.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, March 23, where they will face charges relating to kidnapping and common robbery.
Police investigations are ongoing.
