Heavy rains isolate parts of Mogalakwena

Before repairs from previous floods could be completed, further rainfall worsened conditions in Mogalakwena, leaving some areas isolated and roads impassable.

MOKOPANE – Communities in parts of Mogalakwena are once again facing challenges following recent heavy rains and flooding, which have disrupted access to basic services and infrastructure.

Not long ago, the area experienced severe flooding that left communities cut off from essential services, including healthcare. Before repairs could be completed, further rainfall worsened conditions, making roads impassable and isolating some areas.

Mogalakwena Municipality has urged residents to prioritise safety.

Mayor Ngoako Taueatsoala warned that rising water levels pose a serious risk.

“Residents are strongly advised to avoid crossing flooded rivers, streams and low-lying bridges, as water levels can rise rapidly and become dangerous. Motorists should exercise extreme caution and avoid driving through flooded areas,” he said.

He also encouraged parents and guardians to ensure that children stay away from rivers, drainage systems and other bodies of water during this time.

Residents have further been advised to secure their property where possible and report emergencies, damaged infrastructure or blocked stormwater systems to the municipality or relevant authorities.

The municipality said it will continue to monitor the situation closely and work with emergency services to ensure the safety and well-being of affected communities.
