30 Chefs graduate through Limpopo Chefs Academy

Limpopo Chefs Academy awarded 30 chefs NQF Level 5 certificates via the RPL programme, empowering careers in hospitality and tourism.

MOKOPANE – Chefs who successfully completed their NQF level 5 occupational trade certificates through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme were recently awarded certificates and medals during a graduation ceremony held at the Limpopo Chefs Academy in Mokopane.

A total of 30 chefs can now look forward to greater opportunities in the hospitality and travel industry after being accredited through the Department of Tourism in partnership with the Limpopo Chefs Academy.

The RPL programme is a Tourism Sector Human Resource Strategy (TSHRS) intervention aimed at recognising prior learning and awarding chefs with relevant occupational qualifications and professional designation.

Graduates gain NQF level 5 recognition

Chef Sannah Mbewe said the programme empowered her with the theoretical knowledge of her profession.

“I have gained so much knowledge about the tourism sector and the critical role I play in advancing the economy.

“Maintaining service standards is important to ensure quality experiences for visitors and the sustainability of the industry,” she said.

The programme enables beneficiaries to explore diverse career opportunities within the hospitality sector and has already upskilled and awarded trade certificates to more than 260 chefs across various provinces.

Skills to boost careers and communities

Addressing guests at the ceremony, MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Tshitereke Matibe, congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to use their skills to create opportunities in their communities.

“Government’s development programmes play a critical role in ensuring that the tourism workforce is adequately skilled and that emerging entrepreneurs are empowered to start sustainable businesses.

“The skills you have gained will elevate your careers and enable you to contribute meaningfully to your communities,” he said.

Matibe added that the tourism sector needs the graduates’ talent and creativity, describing the achievement as the beginning of a promising future.
