Univen student creates nature-based wellness brand
Leaf of Faith helps people align mind, body, spirit, and soul through African healing practices inspired by nature and indigenous knowledge.
LIMPOPO – An indigenous knowledge systems student at the University of Venda, Mulisa Ramuhashi is the founder of ‘Leaf of Faith’, an initiative focused on holistic healing.
Founder of Leaf of Faith
The 22-year-old from Louis Trichardt said the concept goes beyond herbs and traditional remedies.
“It is about healing what has been broken. It focuses on aligning the spirit, the body, the mind and the soul.”
Ramuhashi said that the idea speaks to trauma, disconnection and the loss of a relationship with nature.
Healing, identity, and the power of nature
“Leaf of Faith was not just a business idea, it was a calling. I believe nature is one of the purest ways we connect with God. My motivation is to bring people back into alignment with their true selves,” she said.
She added that the name is inspired by the phrase ‘leap of faith’, reimagined to reflect a connection with nature.
“It represents trusting in the natural world and in healing. I want to help restore a sense of identity, especially within African communities where there has been disconnection from nature and spiritual grounding,” she said.
Ramuhashi said her inspiration came from seeing how people have become disconnected from themselves and their surroundings.
She hopes to create healing spaces that reconnect individuals with nature and each other, and envisions the initiative growing into a global movement rooted in African healing.
Overcoming challenges as a young entrepreneur
She acknowledged that the journey has not been without challenges. “As a student, financial constraints have been difficult.
“Building something meaningful without resources tests your faith, but purpose keeps you going,” she said.
She also highlighted the lack of recognition for indigenous knowledge systems.
“What we come from is often overlooked, yet it holds so much power. I continue to educate myself and stand firm in what I believe,” she said.
