Limpopo seeks to fast-track renewable energy projects

Limpopo targets investment and job creation through renewable energy, with government working to turn commitments into real projects.

POLOKWANE – The MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, Tshitereke Matibe, recently hosted the province’s Renewable Energy Seminar at Bolivia Lodge aimed at accelerating investment and strengthening Limpopo’s position as a key destination for investors.

Stakeholders unite to drive projects

The seminar brought together municipalities, government departments, Eskom, Limpopo Economic Development Agency and other stakeholders.

The focus was on improving collaboration and helping move projects from planning stages to implementation.

Province focuses on attracting investment

Matibe said the province is committed to creating an environment that is open to investment and responsive to the needs of industry.

The event formed part of government’s broader drive to attract investment and stimulate economic growth.

A wide range of participants attended, including investors, business leaders, energy experts, mining companies, electric vehicle manufacturers, municipalities and development finance institutions.

Renewable energy key to economic recovery

The initiative also supports Limpopo’s broader economic recovery plan following the pandemic.

This strategy focuses on investing in sectors with strong growth potential, creating sustainable jobs and diversifying the provincial economy.

Matibe said the province is taking practical steps to turn investment commitments into real projects.

“We are building the right conditions to make investment possible, workable and sustainable.

“This seminar shows our commitment to working with partners to remove barriers and position Limpopo at the forefront of economic transformation and industrial development,” he said.

Billions pledged for energy projects

Renewable energy remains one of Limpopo’s strongest investment sectors. At last year’s fifth Limpopo Investment Conference, R80.6b was pledged towards renewable energy projects.

Growing interest from investors reflects increasing confidence in the province’s potential across both traditional and emerging industries.

Renewable energy plays a key role by supporting cleaner power generation, strengthening mining operations, advancing electric mobility and opening new opportunities in manufacturing.

“Our message is clear: Limpopo is ready. We have the resources, strategic location, expanding industries and political support to drive investment. Our focus now is on turning interest into action and commitments into real progress,” Matibe remarked.
