Bullying nearly kills Thohoyandou learner, 3 arrested
A Limpopo boy's suicide attempt after constant bullying results in three arrests as the police commissioner calls for community action.

LIMPOPO – Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe urged parents, guardians and residents to work closely with the police to instill a sense of discipline and respect for learners to prevent bullying at schools.
She welcomed the recent arrest of suspects in an assault case at Ralson Tshinanne Secondary School at Ngovhela (Tshirembe) recently and directed the family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit to investigate cases of this nature across the province.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that last Thursday at around 03:15, a boy attempted to take his own life, seemingly after constant bullying encounters at school.
According to the statement, his parents intervened and opened a case of assault at the police in Thohoyandou.
The FCS unit arrested three persons, aged 17-21.
Ledwaba added that they would be charged in line with the Child Justice Act.
They will soon appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on charges of assault. Police investigations continue.
