Limpopo community mourns Dzingahe leader

Tributes pour in after the death of Dzingahe chief Madadzhe Tshabuse in Limpopo following a short illness.

LIMPOPO – Tributes are pouring in after the sudden passing of Dzingahe village’s traditional leader, Vhamusanda Madadzhe Tshabuse, who died on Thursday at Tshilidzini Hospital after a short illness.

Community expresses shock and sadness

Vhavenda Vho Thetshelesani Tshabuse said the clan and the Ngudza community are saddened at the loss of the leader, who had ruled for only three years after his installation in April 2023.

A short reign marked by community service

He noted that his reign was the shortest in the clan’s history, compared to his late father, Vhamusanda Mmbangiseni Tshabuse, who ruled for 62 years.

“He was a people’s person who loved his clan and the Dzingahe community, and always wanted to develop his village for the better.

“He visited local schools to encourage learners to take education seriously, donated school uniforms to needy learners and provided soccer kits to local teams.”

According to Vho Thetshelesani Tshabuse, the late leader was a former soldier.

Plans for a royal funeral underway

The family is in discussions with senior traditional leader Thovhele Gole Mphaphuli and military personnel regarding arrangements for a royal funeral, expected to take place on Saturday at a local sports ground, followed by a burial at sacred sites.

Leadership advice and call for unity

During his installation, Thovhele Mphaphuli had warned the Tshabuse royal family against internal disputes over the throne, amid concerns of division.

“Do not allow fighting for the throne within the Tshabuse royal family, as it will divide members and lead to legal battles.

“Sit down with the guidance of Vhomakhadzi and Makhotsimunene to identify a suitable successor,” he said at the time.

Legacy of cultural leadership

Vhamusanda Madadzhe Tshabuse succeeded his father and at his installation, Thovhele Mphaphuli urged him to lead with respect and good governance to guide the community in the right direction.

The ceremony included the traditional tshikona dance, a significant cultural ritual performed during the installation of a new leader, reaffirming Vhavenda customs and heritage.
