Limpopo entrepreneur solves graduation costs

Limpopo entrepreneur Kopano Lethuba offers affordable graduation attire rentals, helping students avoid high costs and scams.

POLOKWANE – Kopano Lethuba’s graduation experience inspired him to start his own business, Kopano Graduation Attires.

The 27-year-old said the idea for the business was inspired by seeing the challenges that graduates face, especially those from villages.

“Many students don’t know where to rent or buy gowns as there are only a few shops in the market that offer affordable and reliable options.

“Some even fall victim to scams and the stress of preparing for graduation can be overwhelming,” he said.

Affordable solutions for graduates

With the high cost of living, he decided to find cost effective solutions for those graduates.

Since not everyone can afford to buy or rent graduation attire, he has the option for rental which promotes the graduation experience and makes it accessible for everyone.

To cut costs, he sources the attire from trusted suppliers and collaborates with universities and colleges to ensure the gowns, belts and hoods meet official standards.

Building a reliable brand

For his business to stand out, Kopano focuses on reliability, affordability and excellent customer service.

Running the business, he said, has taught him the complexities that come with marketing and managing a business.

“I’ve gained skills in business planning, handling finances and adapting to different situations-skills you don’t always get in the classroom.

“It’s also shown me that entrepreneurship is about more than making money, it’s about identifying problems, creating solutions and building relationships.”

Challenges and lessons in business

Some of the challenges he faces include managing impatient clients, dealing with trust issues, handling last-minute orders and marketing effectively to reach more graduates.

He has also learnt to plan for the off-seasons to sustain himself.

Expanding beyond graduation services

“Outside of graduation season, we run an academic centre where we assist students from all universities and colleges. We provide support with academic issues, offer tutoring, and help with assignments.

“This allows us to stay active year-round while continuing to serve students in a meaningful way,” he explained.

Future plans for growth

He plans to expand to serve universities across the country and become known as the most trusted graduation attire service nationwide.
