66-year-old Potties athlete conquers Paris Marathon
Local athlete Lesiba Letaha completes the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, finishing the 42.2km race in 04:03:49 at age 66.
MOKOPANE – Local athlete Lesiba Letaha has literally gone the distance after successfully completing the internationally renowned Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, bringing pride and inspiration to his community.
A world-class racing experience
After months of preparation, Letaha took on the demanding 42.2km route through the streets of Paris.
“The Paris Marathon is one of the most iconic races globally, taking place in the centre of Paris. It has an electrifying atmosphere, with about 68 000 athletes taking part,” he said.
“It was exciting to run in cool conditions and interact with athletes from different backgrounds – young and old, men and women, able-bodied and paralympic runners all participating together.”

A veteran with marathon experience
At 66, Letaha is an experienced long-distance runner who has competed in several major races across the country.
He has completed the Comrades Marathon four times, the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon twice, and both the Loskop Ultra Marathon and the Soweto Marathon three times each.
A memorable achievement
“To run the Paris Marathon at my age has been one of the most overwhelming and memorable moments of my life,” he said.
He crossed the finish line in a time of 04:03:49 and said he was happy with his performance.
