Angels Play Preschool takes learners on safari

Learners at Angels Play Preschool enjoyed a safari-themed day filled with dress-up, games and lessons about South Africa’s Big Five.

POLOKWANE – Angels Play Preschool transformed into a lively savannah on Friday, as learners arrived dressed in safari-themed outfits for a special safari day celebration.

Learners and teachers embrace the theme

Khaki shirts, pith helmets, binoculars and animal-print clothing filled the classrooms, with young explorers fully embracing the theme.

Teachers also joined in, swapping their usual attire for ranger vests and safari hats to bring the experience to life.

Fun activities spark curiosity

The day featured a range of themed activities aimed at sparking curiosity about wildlife and nature.

The learners, along with their teachers, visited the animal stations, hearing different animals sounds playing from the bluetooth speakers, to hear how each animal sounds as they walked by.

Learning through play

Learners took part in imaginary game drives, learned about South Africa’s Big Five, and enjoyed animal-themed crafts and storytelling sessions.

They all dressed to the theme, looking like they were on a real safari trip.

Owner of the preschool, Almari Greeff told Review that the initiative focuses on learning through play.

“Safari Day is about using imagination while introducing children to animals, landscapes and conservation values that make our country special. Seeing them excited, smile and get amazed, is truly heart-warming,” she said.

Parents play a key role

Greeff also thanked the parents for playing a huge role in making sure their children were dressed according to the theme for the day.

The learners enjoyed walking through the ‘imaginary safari’ play grounds which were decorated with jungle leaves and paw prints, while the sounds of roars, trumpets and laughter filled the preschool premises.

Adventure anywhere

Greeff added that the event showed that adventure can be created anywhere, regardless of where you are.

“You don’t need to leave the classroom or school to go on a safari, just a bit of khaki, a sense of wonder, a wild imagination, and you’re good to go on a safari adventure.”

My name is Anne Mametja. I am a mom of four and an identical twin. With a passion for media, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Media and Television Production in 2012 and due to my love for children, I also hold a certificate in Nursing Auxiliary. As media is my first love, I started working at the Polokwane Review as a journalist in 2017 and it has been amazing thus far. I love journalism because I can be a voice to the community through my work. Journalism allows me to meet different people at the events I attend. Although there are certain beats that journalists stick to, being an all-rounder means I write community, schools, sports, hard, lifestyle and entertainment news. It also allows me to be versatile in the newsroom and assist where I can. ‘Journalism can never be silent, that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault.’
