Limpopo women riders rev up Female Ride Day

Women bikers from across Limpopo gathered to celebrate International Female Ride Day with a scenic 260km ride and festive programme.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo riding community celebrated International Female Ride Day on Saturday, marking the global event’s 20th anniversary with a local gathering.

A total of 27 women on 24 motorcycles took part, including both novice and experienced riders, all dressed in bright colours.

The day began with a meet-up at Doppio Zero restaurant, where participants enjoyed coffee and muffins before setting off.

Organiser Mariaan Botes thanked sponsors and partners for their support.

“We would like to thank all our sponsors and partners for making this celebration possible. Your support played a huge role in ensuring the success of this event,” she said.

Road captain Debbie Mouton ensured that all riders were prepared for the journey ahead.

The group travelled along the R81 towards Letaba Junction Lodge, covering approximately 130km one way, for a total of 260km round trip. Along the route, they were joined by the Mac Riders from Tzaneen, who rode with them for the remainder of the journey.

Festivities and sponsor support

On arrival at the lodge, participants were treated to a lunch, followed by a festive programme that included gift-giving and a lucky draw.

Riders received goodie bags and prizes from sponsors including KR Motorcycles, Property Connect, OOBA Bond Originators, SA Home Loans, Engela Otto, Runway Diner and Debbie Mouton Jewellers.

Safe and successful event

Participants travelled from across the region, including Johannesburg, Mokopane and Mogwadi, with the majority from Polokwane.

Botes confirmed that the event concluded safely.

“We are pleased to report that the celebration ended with no incidents, accidents or injuries,” she said.
