Doctor and bodybuilder denied bail in Polokwane court

Dr Aadil Ahmed Khan, a 43-year-old aesthetics doctor and bodybuilder, was denied bail for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

POLOKWANE – A prominent Polokwane aesthetics doctor and professional bodybuilder has been denied bail after being charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Dr Aadil Ahmed Khan, 43, appeared before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court last Thursday following an incident at his home in March. A case was later opened at the Polokwane Police Station.

Already serving a sentence

The ruling is another setback for Khan, who was already serving an 18-month correctional supervision sentence following a previous common assault conviction.

The state opposed bail, arguing that the alleged new offence occurred while Khan was subject to strict conditions limiting him to his home and workplace.

The court also heard that his first wife may testify as a state witness.

Remains in hospital under police guard

Although bail was denied, Khan has remained under medical care at a private hospital under police guard since shortly after his arrest.

His legal team argued that detention in an ordinary holding cell could place his health at risk due to his medical condition.

The court heard that Khan survived a shooting incident in Durban in 2022, during which he sustained multiple gunshot wounds and later underwent surgery. Medical documents submitted to court reportedly indicated that he requires ongoing medical supervision for additional health complications.

‘Not guilty’ plea

Khan has pleaded not guilty to the charge. In court papers, he denied the assault.

In his affidavit, Khan argued that his continued detention affected both his medical practice and patients requiring ongoing treatment.

“There are over 80 pre-booked appointments for the period of April and May 2026, for these chronic patients forming an eight-week treatment cycle,” the affidavit stated.

Magistrate’s ruling

The magistrate ruled that, given the seriousness of the charge and Khan’s previous conviction, bail should be denied.

Khan is expected back in court on May 25. His legal team has indicated plans to appeal the ruling.
