CPF, police action leads to dagga seizure in Bendor

Dagga worth about R5 000 was confiscated in Bendor after a community tip-off led to a CPF and police operation, though the suspect escaped arrest.

POLOKWANE A joint operation between the provincial Community Policing Forum (CPF) Board Chairperson, Frans Kgasago, and a member of the Organised Crime Unit led to the confiscation of dagga with an estimated street value of about R5 000 in Polokwane on Thursday morning (May 21).

According to information received from community members, a suspect was allegedly selling dagga at the corner of Genl Viljoen and Genl Maritz streets.

Acting on the tip-off, the team proceeded to a nearby park in Bendor, where they located a man matching the description provided. When the suspect noticed the officers, he fled on foot.

Although the suspect managed to escape arrest, officers recovered and confiscated the dagga at the scene.

Limpopo provincial police commissioner Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe commended the role of community members in reporting the matter, saying the information contributed to the successful seizure.

She also highlighted the importance of cooperation between police and community structures such as the CPF in addressing drug-related crime.

Hadebe encouraged residents to continue working with police, adding that safer communities depend on trust, unity and active participation from the public.

Police investigations are continuing, and efforts are under way to trace and arrest the suspect.
