A bittersweet drop
While the July decrease offers some relief, it is worth remembering just how far fuel prices have climbed.
In 2020, inland petrol cost around R16.02 per litre. From Wednesday, motorists will pay around R25.94. Even with this reduction, the cost of filling a tank will remain well above what drivers paid just five years ago.

The new prices take effect at midnight on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
