Nigerian national arrested after Polokwane drug chase
A 40-year-old Nigerian national was arrested after a police chase in Polokwane, with drugs worth R20 000 found in his vehicle.
POLOKWANE – A 40-year-old Nigerian national is due in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today after police found drugs worth about R20 000 in a vehicle following a chase in the city.
The man was arrested on Monday, August 17, during an operation involving members of the Provincial Organised Crime Narcotics, Anti-Gang Unit and Organised Crime Unit.
Vehicle spotted on R101
According to police, officers had received information about a white Kia Picanto allegedly being used to deliver drugs in Polokwane.
The vehicle was spotted travelling along the R101 and followed by police. The driver then sped away before abandoning the vehicle near the R37 and attempting to escape on foot.
Police caught up with him and arrested him.
Drugs found hidden in vehicle
Drugs identified as CAT and ROCK were found hidden inside the vehicle.

CAT is the street name for methcathinone, a synthetic stimulant listed by SAPS among illicit drugs encountered in South Africa.
Court appearance
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said police would continue working to disrupt the illicit drug trade and ensure those involved face the courts.
The suspect is expected to face charges relating to dealing in and possession of drugs.
