LIMPOPO – A 40-year-old Zimbabwean national is due before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, August 25, after police allegedly found him in possession of a stolen vehicle and a fraudulent document at the Beitbridge Port of Entry.

Vehicle intercepted during border checks

Police arrested the man on Sunday, August 23, at around 14:00, after members stationed at the port intercepted a white Toyota Hilux during routine vehicle profiling and searches at the departure checkpoint.

Checks on the vehicle raised concerns about its legitimacy, and a document allegedly submitted alongside it was found to be fraudulent.

Vehicle seized, case opened

The Hilux, valued at approximately R36 000, was seized and towed to the Musina police vehicle pound, where it remains as police build their case.

A docket has been opened against the man for alleged possession of a fraudulent document and a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

Ongoing crackdown at the border

Limpopo provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Petrus Scheepers praised the officers involved, saying:

“Our members remain alert and committed to disrupting the movement of suspected stolen vehicles and fraudulent documents through our borders. We will continue strengthening our efforts to ensure that criminal elements are intercepted and brought before the courts.”

Police say vehicle profiling at the border remains a priority as they work to intercept stolen vehicles and fraudulent documentation before they cross into neighbouring countries.
