Polokwane schools rally behind Springboks
Polokwane schools showed their Springbok pride with green and gold last Friday, standing behind the team despite their loss to the All Blacks.
POLOKWANE – Bokke fever hit the city on Friday, as schools across the city showed their support for the Springboks ahead of the big clash against New Zealand (The All Blacks).
Among the schools that took part were Laerskool Pietersburg Noord (Noordskool), Eagle’s Nest Christian School, Laerskool Pietersburg Oos (Oosskool), Hoërskool Pietersburg (PHS), Laerskool Pietersburg (Suidskool), and HTS Tom Naudé, where learners and staff wore various colours and designs of Bokke T-shirts in support of the national team.
Schools united in green and gold
The match, which was played at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on Saturday, saw the Springboks go head-to-head with their long-time rivals, the All Blacks.
Despite South Africa’s loss to New Zealand of 33-16, all schools echoed the same sentiments, saying the Bokke made the country proud regardless.
They added that they will continue to stand behind the team as they head into Test 2 on August 29 at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.
More than just rugby
Teachers said wearing the green and gold was about more than just rugby – it was about unity, national pride and showing that Polokwane stands firmly behind the Springboks.
