Waterberg learner shows talent at career expo
Waterberg High Gr 12 learner Mpho Mabitsi was among the top performers recognised at the annual Ignite career expo near Mokopane.
MOKOPANE – Waterberg High School Gr 12 learner Mpho Mabitsi was among the top-performing learners recognised at the annual Ignite career expo, held recently at the Mapela Traditional Council near Mokopane.
Mabitsi achieved fourth place for overall average performance among the district’s top learners and was also awarded a trophy for being the top-performing learner at Waterberg High School.
A day of career guidance and celebration
The achievement was celebrated during the annual Ignite career expo, which brought together Gr 12 learners, educators, community leaders, industry professionals and youth development organisations for a day focused on education, career development, leadership and the future of work.
The expo was powered by Tendani Mining and Projects, alongside Bahlaping Mash Trading Mining Projects, with the initiative aimed at empowering young people through access to career guidance, educational opportunities and exposure to the world of work.
Opportunities for young people
The event featured motivational talks centred on education, purpose and youth empowerment, as well as information on career opportunities, particularly in fields such as engineering and mining.
Organisations and industry representatives also shared information on bursaries, learnerships, apprenticeships, training opportunities and further studies.
A key focus of the expo was to help Gr 12 learners make informed decisions about their future after completing school.
Recognising excellence
The organisers also used the occasion to recognise learners who demonstrated excellence, commitment and determination in their academic journeys.
Trophies, medals and certificates were presented to deserving learners, highlighting the importance of celebrating achievement and nurturing young talent.
