Three Limpopo police officers have been arrested in separate cases involving alleged theft of R9 000 and a R1 000 bribe from a foreign national.

POLOKWANE – hree Limpopo police officers, including a woman, have been arrested in separate cases involving alleged theft and corruption.

The arrests were made on Wednesday, October 7, by the Saps Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit, assisted by the Polokwane Tactical Response Team, following investigations into alleged misconduct by the officers.

Case 1: Officer accused of stealing from complainant’s bank account

In the first case, a 46-year-old police officer faces two counts of theft linked to allegations that a complainant’s bank card was unlawfully obtained while the person was in police custody.

The case was opened at Burgersfort Saps in December 2023.

According to police, two withdrawals totalling R9 000 were subsequently made from the complainant’s bank account.

The investigation was referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who directed that the officer be charged with two counts of theft. A warrant was then issued for his arrest.

He was arrested on Wednesday and is expected to appear in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court today, October 8.

Case 2: Two officers accused of accepting R1,000 bribe

In a separate case, two police officers, aged 33 and 47, have been arrested over allegations that they solicited and accepted a R1 000 bribe from a foreign national.

Police allege the complainant was taken home after officers responded to a complaint involving a suspected counterfeit R200 note.

The officers allegedly demanded R1 000 in exchange for not arresting the man on suspicion of being illegally in the country.

The money was allegedly handed to the officers, after which the complainant was released.

The case was registered at Ohrigstad Saps in August 2026 and investigated by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit.

The matter was referred to the Control Prosecutor, after which warrants were issued for the two officers’ arrest.

Both were arrested on Wednesday and are expected to appear alongside the other accused in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court today.

Police said investigations into the cases are continuing.
