Rugby legends motivate up and coming players

Young rugby players from five districts in the province were treated to rugby coaching clinics that were rendered by former Springboks and Italy rugby legends at the Noordelikes rugby field on Saturday.

POLOKWANE – Young rugby players from five districts in the province were treated to rugby coaching clinics that were rendered by former Springboks and Italy rugby legends at the Noordelikes rugby field on Saturday.

The coaching clinics were part of the Limpopo Rugby Youth Day celebration that was held by the department of sport.

According to the head of department, Mabakane Mangena, the celebration will be an annual event which is aiming at nurturing and developing young rugby players in the province.

“Limpopo is doing well in the rugby fraternity and John Mametsa made the province and country proud during his time as a Springboks player. Young rugby players should follow in Mametsa’s footsteps to become the best they can be,” he said.

Wim Visser, former Italy rugby player said the main objective of a rugby match is to score a try and this can only happen if players work together as a team. He added that rugby players are not supposed to limit themselves. Visser taught players attacking tactics and urged them to run as fast as possible in order to score a try.

David von Hoesslin, former Springboks player, also attended the gathering and taught players a thing or two. Mangena thanked everyone who made the gathering a success and urged rugby players to train hard and do their best to become the best. He said players should stay motivated to achieve their goals.
