This weekend promises to be fully packed with sporting action for residents to indulge in.

POLOKWANE – This weekend promises to be fully packed with sporting action for residents to indulge in.

The main attraction for this weekend will take place at the Polokwane Showgrounds when more than 100 drivers from all over the country will take part in the Motorsport SA National Championship races hosted by Polokwane Oval.

For people who prefer nature and the outdoors to the screeching of tyres and rush of adrenaline accompanying these races, there will be a 5 km spring fun run in Westenburg on Saturday at 07:00, and at 08:00 the Crossfit Polokwane Games of Fun will take place at the sports grounds of Hoërskool Pietersburg.

Akademie Reformia is also hosting mini hockey games on Saturday.

If you prefer the comfort of your own home, the DStv channel, SuperSport, can still satisfy your craving for sports.

The rugby action will start on Saturday as the ABSA Currie Cup Premier Division continues into round five.

The Cell C Sharks will take on the Steval Pumas at 14:45, and DHL Western Province will clash against the Orc Griquas at 17:00.

The last match will be at 19:00 as the Xerox Golden Lions face the EP Kings.

For a less ‘hands-on’ sport, soccer matches will start at 10:30 with the Multichoice Diski Challenge when Platinum Stars and Maritzburg United go head to head.

At 12:55 Mamelodi Sundowns will face the Golden Arrows on the field.

The last match will be played at 14:55 when Orlando Pirates and the University of Pretoria meet on the field to compare their forces. At 18:30 the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying rounds will start, see all the action as the South African team takes on Mauritania.

The US Open tennis matches also continue into the fifth, sixth and seventh day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively.
