Massive challenge awaiting rally teams

THE action of the South African National Rally Championships will move to the Western Cape for round six

THE action and drama of the South African National Rally Championships will move to the Western Cape for round six of the 2013 season on Friday and Saturday.

It will see the Volkswagen Sasol racing team in high gear as they compete for stage victories and the rally podium.

This event is the Toyota Cape Dealer Rally which sees the competition taking place on 165km of gravel and tar. Day one will be both a gravel and tar affair, while the second day will see competitors in action only on gravel surfaces.

The previous round of the national championships saw Henk Lategan and Barry White produce an excellent performance, winning five stages and claiming second place overall.

The next round is the start of three very busy weeks for the duo.

Lategan and White contest the Toyota Cape Dealer Rally before jetting off to Austria for the Arbö Rallye on September 20 and 21, followed the next week by the Croatia Rally on September 26 to 28.

For Enzo Kuun and Douglas Judd, the Western Cape event is an opportunity to build on their performance in the Ford Rally.

The pair proved consistent throughout, remaining within the top 10 during the event.

That consistency can serve them well during this next round, providing an opportunity for a strong performance.

Hergen Fekken and Pierre Arries are eager to get back into competition as round six approaches.

The fast stages of Wolfgat and Nuwedam could favour their style of rallying and there could be a good result waiting on them.

Gugu Zulu and Carl Peskin will be eager to produce another good result in their campaign to claim another S2000 Challenge title.

The pair have a small gap to close on the current leaders and a dash through what is expected to be a wet event.

This could see them in with a strong chance at claiming the title as there are still two more rounds after this event.
