Teeing-off for Des Wheelwright in memorial match

Some 68 players entered to play in the Capricorn Rotary Club’s memorial golf match at the Polokwane Golf Club last Thursday.

The memorial golf match was held to honour the rotary club’s founder and past president, the late Des Wheelwright as well as to raise money for the Riding for Disabled horse riding school. A total of R50 000 was raised from the day’s event.

The winning team of this fourball alliance match consisted of Ruben Gouws, Gerhard Schoeman, Pierre van Heerden and Henk du Preez, who won with 75 points. In second place on 73 points were Jan de Beer, Fred Hurter, Hein Viljoen and Neil Rathman.

In third place also on 73 points on a count-out were Barry Stoop, Stephan van Rensburg, Gerhard Saaiman and Jan van Niekerk.

The prizes for being nearest to the pin went to Riaan Jooste for the first hole, Ralph Ngobeni for the fourth hole, Theuns Pretorius for the eighth hole and Henk du Preez for the 16th hole. A special prize for the player who played the most golf for the day but only managed to secure a dismal eight points went to MW Welman.
