POLOKWANE – Piet Bronkhorst was the winner of the third round of the monthly Northern Media Group (NMG) Zebula Challenge, which was played at the Polokwane Golf Club on Wednesday.
But he did not have it easy as was proven by his final approach at the 18th hole, when he played on the final bend of this fairway only to see the ball land and bounce on the roof of the clubhouse.
This left Bronkhorst with quite an awkward final shot to play as he had to chip it over the garden and fish pond.
But he managed to escape with a bogey for two points, which were enough to clinch him a win on 40 points.
Second on 39 points was Thabo Shingange, with Pat Molepo in third place on 38 points on a count-out.
The prize for the golfer nearest to the pin at the 16th hole was awarded to Willie Marx, while the prize for the golfer nearest to the pin at the eight hole went to Edwin Mackays.
Of the 65 golfers who competed in the match, the following scored two-clubs: Edwin Mackays (x2), Albert Botha, Piet Bronkhorst, Thabo
Shingange (x2) and
Charles Mduli.
