Local oval drivers racing in the national finals

Polokwane Oval will see five of their hot rod drivers competing in the final round of the National Oval Hot Rod championships in Vereeniging this Saturday.

POLOKWANE – Polokwane Oval will see five of their hot rod drivers competing in the final round of the National Oval Hot Rod championships in Vereeniging this Saturday.

Piet Venter, one the five racers from Polokwane, explained what is expected of Saturday’s final round.

“Former member of Polokwane Oval, Rudy Myburgh, is the current leader and he is closely followed by Allas Pienaar. Pienaar was full in the mirror of the black Tiegra of Myburgh during the first leg in Polokwane earlier this year. This clash between these two racers will be the one to watch on Saturday.”

According to Venter, Stephan Weideman was still sorting out the technical gremlins on his car during the first leg of the championship and he will be watching closely becaude the smallest mistake by the other drivers could create an opportunity for him to snatch the title away from his rivals.

Should points remain as they currently stand and the drivers finish according to the current points log, this could mean that Polokwane might well boast the numbers SA1 and SA2 on their hot rods for the first time in South African oval motorsport history.

“Marius Fourie and I will occupy the rear of the current starting grid. We both had to withdraw in the first leg of the championships due to technical problems, but our cars are in fine condition now and we will battle on. I reckon camaraderie will be out the door on Saturday as soon as the green flag drops,” Venter said.
