POLOKWANE – Limpopo Impala Cricket (LIC) will host the KFC Mini Cricket Festival at Polokwane’s cricket grounds in Suid Street on Saturday, with the aim of encouraging children to be more active.
The festival will start at 09:00 and physically-challenged children will also be participating with the emphasis being placed on hand-eye coordination, catching skills and the basics of the game. Over 100 000 children across the country will be participating in the mini cricket festival, with the dedicated coaches sharing their passion for the sport by helping these youngsters getting to grips with the game of cricket at an early age.
Children who will attend this festival will also stand a chance to be auditioned to become KFC mini cricket ambassadors. Successful participants stand a chance of having the opportunity to be involved in T20 International and T20 Challenge matches by participating in activities such as the toss of the coin, escorting the players onto the field and acting as ball boys and girls on the boundaries during matches.
There is also an exciting 2013/2014 KFC Mini Cricket season ahead for these young cricket players, with the KFC Mini Cricketers’ tour against the Proteas in the pipeline.
Seven lucky competition winners will also get to play a mini cricket match against the Proteas. This competition was launched in September and in the first encounter, the Proteas, who were captained by AB de Villiers, beat the KFC Mini Cricket team by a mere 15 runs.
