Phalaborwa player claims Baobab challenge victory in Tzaneen

Michael Malatji was crowned the September champion of the Baobab Monthly Golf Challenge

A MEMBER of the Tzaneen Golf Club, Michael Malatji was crowned the September champion of the Baobab Monthly Golf Challenge, which was played at the Tzaneen Country Club on Sunday.

Malatji, from Phalaborwa, won the challenge with 37 points, defeating 33 other golfers, including the minister in the presidency, Collins Chabane.

For his efforts, Malatji took home a floating trophy and R1 700 in prize money.

The secretary of the Baobab Golf Club, Nathi Sedibe, said the September challenge attracted golfers from as far as Makhado, Hoedspruit, Phalaborwa, Polokwane and Johannesburg.

He said plans were at an advanced stage to host an open golf tournament at a later date.
