Semi-final blow for Lim Bulls

POLOKWANE – The Assupol Limpopo Blue Bulls u/21 B-division that made their Absa u/21 competition debut this season, saw their hopes of going through to the final round of the competition shattered in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
Boland beat Assupol Limpopo Blue Bulls 25-22 when they scored the winning try in the 76th minute of the game.
Limpopo Blue Bulls started the match with a bang, scoring three tries in the first half to Boland’s one try to take a 15-10 lead going into half time. They stretched their lead in the second half with a fourth try. Limpopo Blue Bulls flyhalf, Marcel Scholtz converted only one of the four tries.
But Boland fired back in the rest of the second half, adding three tries to the one they scored in the first half.
Limpopo Blue Bulls were more on defense as Boland kept attacking. Boland was succesful with a penalty kick and also converted one of their four tries.
Limpopo Blue Bulls right winger, James Wepener, scored two tries for his side in the 25th and 32nd minutes of the match. Scholtz went over for the first try in the 18th minute, while scrumhalf Jerome Bastick went over Boland’s try line in the 48th minute for Limpopo Blue Bulls’ final try.
The road to the semi-final
The Limpopo u/21 and u/19 teams made a remarkable debut in the B-division of the Absa competition.
The u/19 side played a few matches, losing most of their matches by two or four points during their campaign and did not make the play-offs. The u/21 side on the other hand started their campaign with two victories.
In their first encounter against South Western Districts, the Limpopo Blue Bulls u/21 side gave their opponents a 60-0 lashing. They followed this with a 53-19 victory against the Pumas.
In their first meeting against Boland, Limpopo Blue Bulls lost 31-25. But they made up for that loss by beating the Griffons 41-20, the Falcons 48-10 and the Griquas 24-19.
Their last league match was against the Eastern Province Kings, where they lost 37-33. But losing with less than seven points in their last encounter secured the Limpopo Blue Bulls a place in the B-division semi-final.
