MALL of the North Game FC met their match in Peace Makers FC at the Mimosa sports ground on Sunday when the two teams played to a goalless draw.
With a bet of R250 on the cards, both teams tried their level best to outsmart each other, but to no avail.
Peace Makers FC, who were a bit faster than their opponents, tried to break the goal drought by utilising left footed striker, Kholofelo Monama. Unfortunately Monama missed the goal that would have made him a hero in his team’s eyes.
He went head to head with Game FC’s goal keeper, Johannes Chipu, who skilfully denied Monama victory by making a once in a lifetime save in the 25th minute of the game.
To add insult to Peace Makers’ injury, Papas Komape missed a wide open goal by shooting off a thunder shot and kicking the ball over the post.
Both teams showed their hunger for victory in the second half, but their efforts yielded no fruit. Both sides’ strikers failed to score.
The game went more than 30 minutes into extra time, but the teams still could not make it all the way to the net.
Referee Mukoni Sekgolela called it a day without any penalty shoot-outs, because the dark was catching up with the game.
Peace Makers complained that the referee denied his team a penalty that he was sure would make them the winners of the match. “My player, Dino Marakkalala was knocked down in the penalty area, but the referee decided to close his eyes,” he said. Game FC’s captain, Chipu, said his team worked very hard.
“We should have won this game, but Lady Luck was not on our side.”
