Dancers wow the national audiences

Dancers from Universe of Rhythm and Dance (URD) took part in national competitions and excelled at these events recently.

Four dancers, Mikayla Deverneuil, Abigail Caldeira, Chanté Chalmers and Jessica Dos Ramos Abreu, took part in the Solo Danca Latina Championships in Klerksdorp. Mikayla, Abigail and Jessica took part in the junior section where 61 dancers competed, while Chanté took part in the Youth sections where 44 dancers competed.

Results:

• Jessica received a gold medal for the Rising Star Classic division and silver in the Rising Star Latin division. She reached the semi-finals and ended under the top 12 dancers in the Champion Latin and Classic division.

• Mikayla finished in sixth place in the Rising Star Classic section and finished in fourth place in the Rising Star Latin setion. She took part in the semi-final of the Champion Energy, Latin and Classic dance styles section.

• Abigail also reached the semi-final for the Champion Latin and Classic sections after obtaining full champion status in 2012.

• Chanté took part in the Champion Energy section and ended in sixth place after also obtaining full champion status in 2012. She also reached the semi-finals in the Advanced Champion section where she competed against professional dancers.

“I am very proud of these dancers, they worked hard and did exceedingly well,” said Jouney Steenkamp, teacher and owner of URD.

Another dancer from URD took part in the recent South African Talent Championships.

Dylan Posselt won a silver medal for hip hop, five silver medals for singing and a gold medal for guitar. He is also a music student at Rock Hard Music School.
