Celtic’s Solomon takes over from Lechesa as Polokwane City’s coach

POLOKWANE City FC appointed former Bloemfontein Celtic FC technical director, Boebie Solomons, as their head coach on Sunday.

POLOKWANE City FC appointed former Bloemfontein Celtic FC technical director, Boebie Solomons, as their head coach on Sunday. Rise and Shine has been without a head coach since the departure of Duncan Lechesa last month. The team was left in the hands of the Brazilian caretaker coach, Eduardo Schoeler, who led City FC to a 2-0 victory against Ajax Cape Town recently.

Solomons was introduced to the players at the club’s village outside Polokwane on Sunday.

City FC chairperson, Johnny Mogaladi said he signed a five-year contract with Solomons. He said there was no other coach he ever spoke to regarding this position, he only spoke to Solomon.

“Solomons understands the dynamic of the province as he coached Leopards and Winners Park in 2008.

He was appointed as head coach of Santos in July 2009. He left and joined Bloemfontein Celtic in June 2012 as an assistant coach to Clinton Larsen before being appointed as the head coach of Rise and Shine,” said Mogaladi.

Solomons said his mandate was to ensure the club stayed in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). He said there was a lot of potential in Limpopo.

“The vision of the club is to build the team for the next five years and to have the team in the PSL,” he said.

City FC clashes with Bidvest Wits tonight (Wednesday at the Bidvest Stadium, Johannesburg.
