New soccer champs for KLG league

MANAMELA Naughty Boys and Ramalema Cosmos are the 2013 champions of the green and yellow streams respectively, of the Kaizer Letsoalo Games (KLG) Soccer League.

MANAMELA Naughty Boys and Ramalema Cosmos are the 2013 champions of the green and yellow streams respectively, of the Kaizer Letsoalo Games (KLG) Soccer League.

Manamela pulled through after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Tzaneen Pick n Pay at the Charles Mathonsi Sports Ground, while Ramalema Cosmos beat Mighty Birds 5-0 victory at the Mapantsula Sports Ground.

The tough nature of the KLG soccer league was quite clear in that the winners of both streams only edged their runners-up on goal difference after ending with an equal number of points.

In the green stream, Manamela Naughty Boys overcame Golden Aces by a goal difference of six after each accumulated 58 points.

A historical occurrence was realised in the yellow stream after the top two contenders, Long Valley and Ramalema Cosmos were tied at 71 points each.

Going into the weekend fixtures, Long Valley was leading the stream by a goal difference of three.

Long Valley won their match against GP United 4-2 at the Soccer City, Lephepane Sports Ground to end at 71 points to tie with Ramalema Cosmos.

However, there was drama after the two matches because the two teams were confused as to which team won the yellow stream as they were tied on points and a goal difference of 43.

It took the release of the log standings by the KLG league committee, which confirmed Ramalema Cosmos as the winner of the yellow stream.

In terms of the technical rule on tie-breaking, the team with more goals than the other would be considered the winner.

Ramalema Cosmos scored a total of 76 goals as opposed to Long Valley’s 75.

It is also strange that Long Valley beat Ramalema Cosmos by one goal in terms of the goals conceded.

Meanwhile, a number of interesting matches were played at various sports facilities in the areas of Nkowankowa, Lephepane, Khujwana, Rakoma, Tickeyline and Thlabine to mark the end of the green and yellow stream fixtures of the KLG Soccer League this season.

What was at stake was for teams to top each stream to book a place in the title-deciding play-offs.

This would cement them a place in the top four of each stream to have a place in the top eight qualifiers and secure a place in the top eight of each stream to get a chance in the overall top 16 of this 32-club league.

The top 16 teams will gain entry into the brand-new elite division next season, the KLG Premier League.

The bottom 16 teams will campaign in the promotional division of the KLG Soccer League next year, the KLG Super League.

It is anticipated that too many teams from various areas in this region will participate in the KLG Super League.

The chairperson of the KLG Soccer League, Reed Rakgoale, said the league had received too many requests from new teams wanting to join the KLG sports family next year.

“As things stand, we will have at least two streams in the super league; and of course the KLG premier division,” Rakgoale said.

He added that KLG had a lot of work cut out for them in the next few weeks to prepare for the historical soccer season next year.

“Our premier and super leagues will offer brand-new platforms for soccer followers in this region.

“The face of soccer will change forever with these new initiatives next year,” he said.
