Residents and businesses in the city once again opened their wallets and hearts to charity during the annual mayoral charity golf day

Residents and businesses in the city once again opened their wallets and hearts to charity during the annual mayoral charity golf day on Friday.

Over R1 million was raised on the day.

Through sponsorships, the golf day raised about R980 000, while R250 000 was from donations and R30 000 was raised during an auction that was held later in the evening, said Polokwane Municipality spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo.

Proceeds will go towards identified charities in the municipality.

The winner of the A-division with a score of 44 points was Adam Milanzi. Peter Masehela was second on 43 points and Malebane Pataki was third on 42 points.

Zipho Ngobeni won the B-division on 42 points, with Jonas Legora taking second place on 41 points.

The winner of the men’s C-division on 38 points was Raymond Martin. Second place on 37 points on a count-out went to Julias Mapata and third place, also on 37 points on a count-out, went to Tony Plaatjies.

Nola Peceur won the women’s division with a total of 41 points. Second place on 40 points went to Pule Southon and in third place on 35 points was Alice Phatudi.

There were four prizes for golfers with the closet shot to the pin at four different holes on the course: Zipho Zonke (fourth hole), Olga Ribeiro (eighth hole), Weyden Peceur (11th hole) and Prince Dlamini (16th hole). Polokwane mayor, Freddy Greaver won the prize for longest drive shot on the seventh hole and Adam Milanzi took the prize on the 17th’s fairway. The prize for the longest drive towards the second hole was awarded to Lolita Pitso and Nola Peceur won the prize for her drive shot on the 12th fairway.
