MOKGOBA Football Club won the Top 8 Knock-out soccer tournament for farm teams in the finals at Sapekoe Middelkop

MOKGOBA Football Club won the Top 8 Knock-out soccer tournament for farm teams after beating Chipolopolo 1-0 in the finals at Sapekoe Middelkop last Sunday.

Collen Malatji scored the only goal of the match with only eight minutes remaining before the final whistle to help the Modjadjiskloof-based team lift the trophy and take home R1 500 cash prize.

Chipolopolo, who was impressive on the day was extremely unlucky to have lost a match that seemed destined to end in a goalless draw. Chipolopolo received a prize of R1 000 for coming second.

To reach the finals, Mokgoba beat Rooikoppies 3-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw, while Chipolopolo thrashed Sapekoe Middelkop 3-0.

In the third place play-offs, Rooikoppies narrowly defeated Sapekoe Middelkop 3-2 to claim the R500 prize.

Speaking on behalf of the sponsors, EM Jay General Services trading as Magoebaskloof Ruskamp, Thupane Makgoba said: “The tourney aims to encourage farm workers to live positively and to participate in sporting activities.”

Lesiba Raseala, an executive member of the Mopani District Sports Council said the event would also include a netball tournament next year.
