POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Impalas took on North West in a match that was played at the Polokwane Cricket Club from November 6 to 8.
In the first innings, the Impalas gave a goood performance, but a collapse in their second innings with the bat bashed their hopes of winning the match.
North West won the toss and elected to bat first. They posted a score of 201 runs all out for their first innings.
Impalas bowler, Issaac Senetla claimed 3/22 in 21.1 overs in the first innings.
His teammate, Pieter Haasbroek took 3/46 in 13 overs.
The Impalas gave chase to North West’s first innings total and scored 215 runs all out to take a mere lead of 14 runs going into the second innings.
Cloete Buitendag showed flair with the bat with a solid 65 runs for the Impalas, with Ruan Willemse scoring 42 runs of 61 balls. North West scored 309 runs all out.
Lucky Mhlongo, a bowler for the Impalas took 6/42 in 18 overs and Haasbroek again took some wickets, taking 3/68 in 22 overs.
North West shifted the target for the Impalas to chase down to 295 runs with a full day still to be played, which gave the Impalas adequate time to chase down the targeted score. But it was not to be. It was only Buitendag who again shone with the bat for Impalas with a very competitive 74 runs from 99 deliveries and the only notable score for the Impalas. The other Impalas batsmen fell by the wayside as North West bowlers caused havoc to bundle the Impalas out for 137 runs to lose this contest by 158 runs.
Last Saturday, the Impalas lost against Griqualand West in a Cricket South Africa 50 overs rural match. The Impalas batted first and were dismantled for 81 runs in only 35.2 overs.
The Impalas bowlers tried everything in their might from preventing the Griquas to reach their score, but it was not to be as the visitors easily chased down this low score target to win convincingly by six wickets, scoring 83/4.
