SENGATANE FC was crowned champions of the annual Tlou Segolela Cup that was held at the Black Rovers Sports Grounds in Moletjie, Mabokelele, from December 24 to 31.

Sengatane FC claimed victory after beating Dalmany FC 6-5 in a penalty shoot-out.

During the match, Sengatane scored the opening goal in the first 10 minutes of the first half, leaving Dalmany under pressure.

Unfortunately Sangatane blundered by committing a foul a few meters away from the 18th area and that gave Dalmany the opportunity to equalise in the first 15 minutes of the first half, leading to the penalty shoot-out.

In the semi-finals, Sengatane beat Mphebatho FC 3-1. Dalmany FC proceeded to the final after beating Rammetlwana Swallows FC 2-1 in their semi-final match.

Sengatane walked away with the cash prize of R35 000, gold medals, a trophy and brand new soccer kits.

They also won R7 500 to donate to the charity organisation of their choice.

Runners-up, Dalmany FC, won R15 000 in cash, soccer kits, silver medals and a trophy.

Mphebatho FC and Rammetlwana FC walked away with R5 000 each as well as new soccer kits.

The tournament was meant to motivate young soccer players to make an impact in their communities while doing something they loved.

Orlando Pirates player, Tlou “Gautrain” Segolela, said the tournament was a success and he was pleased to see that young people still valued sport.

“There is a lot of talent in rural areas and a few players were selected for trials with Marizburg FC. This shows that there is progress in what we do and I see better results in the future,” he said.

Segolela thanked all the sponsors and every person who supported the tournament.
