Fans delight in 6 CHAN matches

South Africa, host of this year's Chan, will face Mozambique in Cape Town at the Cape Town Stadium in the opening game of the tournament on Saturday

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) soccer team, the 2009 African Nations Championships (Chan) winners, was the first team to arrive in South Africa for this soccer tournament, which kicks off Saturday.

South Africa, host of this year’s Chan, will face Mozambique in Cape Town at the Cape Town Stadium in the opening game of the tournament on Saturday.

The DRC team, which competes in Group D, will face newcomers Mauritania on Tuesday at Polokwane’s Peter Mokaba Sports Complex. The match will start at 17:00.

Following the DRC’s match, Gabon and Burundi will face each other, with their match starting at 20:00.

The Peter Mokaba Sports Complex will host five Group D matches and one Group C match.

The last match due to be played in Polokwane is a quarter-final match on Sunday, January 26.

• Quarter-final match, Polokwane: Winner Group D vs runner-up Group C, January 26, 17:00.

Tunisia won the 2011 Chan tournament, which was held in the Sudan, in the wake of the Tunisian revolution.

This championship is staged every two years, alternating with the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
