POLOKWANE – Polokwane Golf Club will once again host the seventh annual Baobab Classic Tournament from March 6 to 8.
Thirty-six teams consisting of 144 golfers have already entered to compete in the tournament, which will include golfers from clubs such as Pretoria Country Club, Waterkloof Country Club, Akasia Golf Club and the Nelspruit Golf Club.
The first round of the tournament will be played in a fourball alliance format, with Meropa Casino and Entertainment World as the sponsor.
“We are honoured and privileged to be one of the sponsors,” said Meropa’s general manager, Clifford Ngakane.
Modern Autohaus BMW will sponsor the next round on March 7, which will be in a betterball stableford format.
During the Baobab Classic, golfers will be competing for top honours in the final fourball play-off of the Modern Autohaus BMW Captain’s Knock-out Competition.
The Captain’s Knock-out Competition is an annual tournament that stretches over six months.
The final play-off of the Modern Autohaus BMW Captain’s Knockout Competition is traditionally held on the second day of the Baobab Classic.
“The Baobab Classic gives us the perfect opportunity for an exhilarating finish to the final play-off of the Modern Autohaus BMW Captain’s Knockout Competition to be played in conjunction with the Baobab Classic, which is essentially a competition within a competition,” says Johan van der Walt of Modern Autohaus.
“It is indeed one of our most important annual sponsorship events of the year.
“It is now the third year that we use this opportunity to make the final-play off of the Modern Autohaus BMW Captain’s Knockout exciting by combining it with the popular Baobab Classic,” Van der Walt added.
The prize-giving will include prizes for both the Boabab Classic round two match, as well as for the Captain’s Knock-out Competition. The floating trophy for the Captain’s Knock-out Competition will also be handed to winners.
The final day of the Baobab Classic on March 8 will be held in the format of a individual stableford contest, which is sponsored by Polokwane Copiers and Fax, the official Kyocera dealer in Limpopo for the past 20 years.
“It is a privilege to be associated with the Baobab Classic golf tournament as one of the main sponsors.
“We firmly believe in the upliftment of the community and to be associated with the leaders in business,” said Johan Swart, the managing director and owner of Polokwane Copiers and Fax.
For the duration of the tournament, South African Breweries will sponsor the Polokwane Golf Club with refreshments.
New sponsors to this event, Dag-ga-Boys Pub and Grill will sponsor on course and half way house refreshments for the all three days of the Baobab Classic.
“We want to say thank you to the members of Polokwane Golf Club for supporting our business since it opened last year,” says Hendrik van der Merwe, who is one of the owners of the pub.
Goitsemang Motseki, Polokwane Golf Club’s captain said: “It is with pride and humbleness that we would like to say a massive thank you to all the sponsors involved.
“You are really fantastic and your input in this regard is highly appreciated.
“Thank you to the organising committee for their commitment and devoted effort in making the Baobab Classic and the Modern Autohaus BMW Captain’s Knock-out Competition such a huge success”.
