POLOKWANE – Eagles Cricket Club are the champions of the Premier League’s 2013/2014 season with an eight-point lead on the log.
Eagles were victorious when they beat Aces Cricket Club by 25 runs on Sunday to remain unbeaten after 11 rounds.
The match started with a toss, which Eagles won and elected to bat first, posting 167 runs all out.
Eagles’ Petri de Kock scored a half century during the match.
He ended on 70 runs from 118 deliveries.
Aces bowled well against Eagles.
Aces bowler, Andy Müller took 4/46 in nine overs, while Henk Holtzhausen took 2/19 in six overs.
In reply, Aces fought hard, but could only manage 142/10 in the end against a determined bowling attack from Eagles.
Aces fell short by a mere 25 runs.
Eagles’ Hardus Venter bowled well and took 3/11 in four overs, while his teammate Jaco Smit took 2/15 in 10 overs.
Going into the final round on Sunday, Eagles enjoyed an eight-point lead with a total of 67 points scored so far.
They won 10 of their 12 encounters.
Hornbills from Tzaneen were in second place on 59 points, with the same number of games as Eagles.
Eagles will face the Hornbills on the B-field of the Polokwane Cricket Club on Sunday, where they will be officially crowned as champions for this season.
