City’s revenge attack on the Bucs

City FC stunned Orlando Pirates fans when they beat the team 1-0 at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.

POLOKWANE City FC stunned Orlando Pirates fans when they beat the team 1-0 at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Sipho Jembula’s 27th minute strike was enough to hand City their much needed three points.

The victory of the Boebie Solomons coached side was sweet revenge after they lost to Bucs with the same score line during their first round encounter at the Orlando Stadium.

The win has pushed City to position 13 on the log with 19 points from 18 matches. Only one point separates them from the University of Pretoria and Mpumalanga Black Aces who occupy position 11 and 12 respectively.

City will hope to build on their win over the mighty Buccaneers into the cup action this weekend. Rise and Shine, as Polokwane City are affectionately known, will travel to King Zwelethini Stadium in Durban on Saturday for an interesting encounter with bottom of the log team, Golden Arrows in a Nedbank Cup Last 32.

The Shaun Bartlett coached Arrows pulled off a surprise when they beat City 3-2 in a league match recently.

Solomons said cup matches will not disrupt his plans of retaining their Premier Soccer League status.

He said he was taking it one game at a time and was confident the players would respond well to the demands of all the matches.

“It will be a tricky fixture against Arrows. They are rock bottom and they deserve the respect. A win for them in a cup match will boost their confidence in the league and we want to keep the winning momentum. We are under no pressure but we must keep our supporters happy at all times,” said Solomons.
