Rain, bruises don’t deter athletes

POLOKWANE – Pietersburg Road Runners had a memorable month of February with a lot of victories at various marathons.
Athletes from the club took part in the recent Potties 4-in-1 Road Race, as well as the Soutpansberg Mountain Race.
“The Soutpansberg race was a difficult race, it rained heavily and the whole route was covered with mud,” said Colinda Potgieter, one of the club members. Rufus Photo, one of the clubs top athletes fell during the 32 km race and had to be treated for some scratches and bruises.
“But he still did well, finishing the race second in a time of 01:51:31,” said Potgieter.
Marlene Mackenzie was the first woman to cross the 32 km finish line in a time of 03:12:00. Calvin Malatji finished the 32 km race fifth in a time of 02:07:00. In the 42,2 km race, Phuti Mohale finished first in a time of 02:34:06, while Martinique Potgieter was the first woman to cross the finish line in a time of 03:18:02.
Colinda Potgieter was the first veteran woman to complete the 42 km race in a time of 04:14:04.
