Cheers of excitement could be heard loudly during the annual Savannah Arm-wrestling Challenge at the Banking Mall at Savannah Mall on Saturday.

POLOKWANE – Cheers of excitement could be heard loudly during the annual Savannah Arm-wrestling Challenge at the Banking Mall at Savannah Mall on Saturday.

In its fourth year, the challenge was also a fundraising initiative.

Arm-wrestlers from across the country competed in the challenge.

The event was organised by Lynx Arm-wrestling Club and one of the organisers, Liana Fourie said there were 50 entries this year.

There were five categories in the challenge and the winners in each category were:

• Title belt match – Hanco Nel.

• Club challenge – Brothers in Arms.

• Individual winner of the club challenge – Terence Opperman.

• Open class right – Willie Botha.

• Open class left – Hanco Nel.

“We would like to thank all the sponsors because without them this event would not be possible. A big thanks to Savannah Mall for the perfect venue and the chance to make a big difference in a lot of small hearts. We raised an amazing R10 000 and the money was handed over to Akademie Reformia’s Arende class yesterday (Wednesday),” said Fourie.
