Athletes represent the city in 2 marathons
Athletes from Pietersburg Road Runners competed in two different races over the weekend.
POLOKWANE – Athletes from Pietersburg Road Runners competed in two different races over the weekend.
The first race was in Thabazimbi and hosted by the Marakele Race Club, while the other race took place in Mbombela and was hosted by PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
Both races were held as 3-in-1 races, with the athletes competing in 10 km, 21 km and 42,2 km races. The winners of the races and those who finished within the required time qualified for the Two Oceans and Comrades Marathon.
The winners received gold medals, while the athletes who finished the race received T-shirts and silver medals.
The athletes competed under the rules and regulations of Athletics South Africa.
Results:
• Marakele 42,2 km race:
1. Rufus Photo – 02:30:00 (set a new record in the men’s open category).
14. Phuti Mohale – 02:52:07 (men’s open category).
• PriceWaterhouseCoopers 42,2 km race:
1. Martinique Potgieter – 03:036:07 (women’s open category).
6. Colinda Potgieter- 03:43:05 (women’s veterans).
Race finishers:
Erika Bantjes, Hannelie Viviers and Carien de Beer. Nella Ballantyne finished the 21,1 km trace in a time of 02:24:00.
