POLOKWANE – Limpopo Aquatics, Limpopo’s official provincial body for swimming held a gala at the city’s pool on Friday and Saturday, where they presented the first inter-provincial schools meeting.
The Limpopo team excelled above expectations by beating rival teams from Mpumalanga and North West. Both the Limpopo boys and girls teams excelled, with Limpopo winning the overall standings.
The Limpopo team accumulated a total of 4 711 points, which was the combined score taken from the boys and girls teams.
Mpumalanga was second with 4 112 points, while North West was third with 2 574 points.
Limpopo girls team racked up 2 290 points, Mpumalanga was second on 2 109 points and North West was in third place on 1 389 points.
Limpopo’s boys team scored 2 421 points ahead of Mpumalanga on 2 003 points and North West on 1 185 points.
In the girls individual rankings, Limpopo swimmers took the first three spots with 60 points each: Sulé van der Merwe, Kristin Lottering and Vanessa van Rooyen.
In the boys individual rankings, Limpopo swimmers, Morné van der Bank and Ude Fuchs shared first place with 60 points with two other Mpumalanga swimmers, also on 60 points.
The top item points scorer for this meeting belonged to Limpopo’s Laura Lennox, who had 818 points for her top performance in the 50 m breaststroke for girls u/14, where she recorded a winning time of 34,94 seconds.
Fuchs earned 807 points for the 50 m breaststroke for boys u/16 in a time of 31 seconds and 801 points for the 50 m butterfly for boys u/16 in a time of 26,61 seconds.
