Gymnastics club hosts training workshop

THE Mokopane Gymnastics Club said it was committed to uplifting the skills and standard of gymnastics in Limpopo.

THE Mokopane Gymnastics Club said it was committed to uplifting the skills and standard of gymnastics in Limpopo.

This emerged during a training session which was facilitated by the Mokopane Gymnastics Club’s facilitator, Richard Marshall, over the weekend.

Various coaches from around Limpopo, including Thabazimbi, Modimolle and Polokwane, attended the training session.

Marshall presented the general leader course for gymnastics coaches. He said the training was for beginner coaches and covered the basics of gymnastics coaching.

The course included first aid training and other aspects related to sport. “We would like to promote gymnastics across the province. The learning of gymnastics skills comes with the acquisition of general motor skills which are inherent in many other sports,” said Marshall.

He said as early as 10 to 12 years, children are ready for gymnastics because important movement patterns can be learned and perfected more easily and can form the basis for almost every other sport.

According to the Mokopane Gymnastics Club, the sport increases the ability to balance and develop good posture. It also contributes to the child’s general strength and stability during his or her physical development and promotes agility, flexibility and ability to respond.

Marshall indicated that Mokopane Gymanstics Club will come up with the outreach programme, where they will visit schools in Mahwelereng and local villages to encourage the learners to participate in gymnastics.
