Muni rehabilitates sports facility to benefit youth
Musina Municipality starting with the rehabilitation of the local sports centre in Nancefield Ext 5

HENDRICK Moyo is a 15-year-old learner from Musina Nancefield Ext 5.
Like most young people in the area, Hendrick does not have anything to keep him busy after school, due to a lack of recreational facilities in the area.
But this will be a thing of the past, with the Musina Municipality starting with the rehabilitation of the local sports centre.
The project will go a long way in bridging the gap of the shortage of sporting facilities in the Musina municipal area.
Unemployed residents have been given job opportunities during the rehabilitation process.
The state-of-the-art sports centre is valued at R5,1 million.
Musina Municipality communications manager, Wilson Dzebu, says work at the construction site is progressing well.
He says the scope of work includes the erection of the palisade fence, construction of change rooms, as well as an additional ticket and guard room.
“In addition, there will also be modern tennis, volleyball and netball courts. The sports centre will also be equipped with a state-of-the art soccer pitch and ablution facilities,” says Dzebu.
“With the growing demand and the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, the municipality is doing its best to ensure public sports facilities are available to the community as the play an important role in promoting physical activity and participation in leisure sports activities.
“Therefore, there have been significant efforts to continue to improve the quality of public sports facilities within the municipality. This is very important because sports facilities allow people to exercise, enjoy playing together and socialise.”
Dzebu says sport has many benefits for both children and adults.
“Participating in sport is a great way to learn skills like teamwork that will serve children and adults in later life. With many children at risk of becoming involved in street gangs, sport provide them with a means to engage with each other in a healthy, positive way.”
