“WE have fulfilled our promise to the sport, arts and culture MEC, Merriam Ramadwa.”
These were the words of Limpopo Softball Association team coach, Mamphiri Sethosa after the federation made a commitment to the MEC that they would bring a medal home.
The team finished second in Softball South Africa’s National Provincial Championships after they were defeated 5-4 by Tshwane in Cape Town last weekend.
The Limpopo side suffered two defeats at the hands of the Pretoria side during the round-robin stage (5-1), and the final (7-2) before the grand final.
Sethosa said he was very impressed by the team’s performance. “We are very happy because the boys played their hearts out to ensure we bring home a silver medal. We will continue working hard to ensure we go for gold next year,” Sethosa said.
On their way to the grand final, Limpopo won six of their nine matches before they walloped Ekurhuleni 7-2 to book themselves a place in the grand final.
Four of Limpopo’s players were selected in the national team. The players are Tidima Kekana, Thabang Letsoalo, Thapelo Seshoka and Nkgodisheng Motshologoane.
The female team finished sixth out of the 10 teams that participated in the tournament.
