POLOKWANE – Polokwane Golf Club’s Lynette Smith, the winner of last year’s national BMW Golf Cup, flew the South African flag high at the BMW Golf Cup International World Final, along with teammates Barry van den Vyfer and Johan Barnard, by winning this tournament, which was held in Phuket, Thailand, from March 10 to 15.

Teams from 50 countries competed in the tournament. Smith ended 15th overall in the women’s division. Barnard won the men’s B-division, while Van den Vyfer was third overall in the men’s A-division.

Their team effort secured the Team Championships title for BMW South Africa.

“I thank BMW South Africa for the opportunity to represent the country on an international stage.

“The tournament was a wonderful experience, especially the professional way in which the tournament was staged and the humility of the hosts,” said Smith.

South Africa finished ahead of New Zealand and Australia who finished in second and third place respectively, both teams ending the tounament on 179 points.

“To represent South Africa and fly the South African flag with pride certainly opened doors for us.

“People will be amazed just how recognised the country’s flag is by the international community.

“We were welcomed with open arms,” Smith concluded.
