Swimmers selected for SA squad
Two Eagar Aquatics Club swimmers were selected for the national swimming team following their great performance at the national championships, which was held at the University of Western Cape from March 13 to 17.
POLOKWANE – Two Eagar Aquatics Club swimmers were selected for the national swimming team following their great performance at the national championships, which was held at the University of Western Cape from March 13 to 17.
Ude Fuchs was selected for the national junior squad, while Christoff Ras was hand-picked for the national youth squad.
They will take part in the Senior National Championships, which will serve as trials for the commonwealth games to take place in Durban from April 7 to 12.
Ras won a gold medal in the 200 m breaststroke in a time of 2 minutes 22 seconds, silver in the 100 m breaststroke in a time of 1 minute and 7 seconds and a silver medal in the 200 m individual medley in a time of 2 minutes 11 seconds.
Fuchs won a silver medal in the backstroke 50 m in a time of 28,81 seconds and a silver medal in the 100 m butterfly in a time of 57,81 seconds.
Douggie Eagar, Eagar Aquatics head coach, says he foresees a bright future ahead for the two youngsters.
“Ras and Fuchs are very passionate about what they do and I think they will go places if they continue at this pace. I think this is a good opportunity for them and they should make use of it.”
